Festo reported Apr. 24 that it will use PLCnext open-ecosystem technology from Phoenix Contact in intelligent devices it plans to launch by the end of this year. It adds that integrating PLCnext will enable opportunities for Festo and its customers in three areas:
Openness and flexibility because PLCnext is based on an open architecture that allows individual solutions to be developed and systems to be seamlessly integrated. This will let Festo offer customized automation for specific customer requirements.
Synergy utilization by combining know-how from Phoenix Contact and Festo to enable profitable cooperation and solve future technological challenges such as cybersecurity.
Innovation and future viability because pooling Festo's expertise in automation with PLCnext also promises to enable Industry 4.0 innovation and jointly master the challenges of digital transformation and IT/OT convergence.
“Together with Festo, we’ll continue to work on generating new solutions for our customers,” says Frank Stührenberg, CEO of Phoenix Contact. “This is because sustainable innovation can only be achieved with close cooperation.”
Gerhard Borho, chief IT and digitalization officer at Festo, adds that, “We’re convinced the openness of PLCnext will provide our customers with many advantages."
